The Adamson University (AdU) Lady Falcons survived the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in five sets, 25-17, 23-25, 20-25, 25-23, 15-13, in the second round of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium last Saturday.

Adamson finally put an end to a six-game losing skid to improve its record to three wins and eight losses.

After winning the opening set, the Lady Falcons struggled to sustain their rhythm and found themselves trailing in the match after the third frame, 1-2.

Adamson, however, regained its bearings with a narrow victory in the fourth set to force a deciding set, and then capitalized on the momentum to snatch the game from UP.

Barbie Jamili dropped 16 points, 14 excellent receptions, and 11 excellent receptions to lead the Lady Falcons. May Ann Nuique delivered 11 attack points, including three blocks and one ace, while Jen Villegas and Red Bascon chipped in 12 and 10 markers, respectively.

Karen Verdeflor was hailed as the Best Player of the Game as she patrolled the floor with 25 excellent digs and 15 excellent receptions.

On the other side, Nina Ytang scored 17 points composed of 10 attacks and seven blocks, while Joan Monares and Jewel Encarnacion added 16 points apiece.

Despite the victory, Adamson failed to secure a spot in the Final Four this season after Far Eastern University’s five-set win over the University of Santo Tomas in the second game.

Still, the Lady Falcons are aiming for a strong finish in their last three games, starting with the defending champions, De La Salle University, on Wednesday, April 17 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum at 2 p.m.
