The Adamson University (AdU) Lady Falcons held their ground in a four-set loss to the undefeated University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses, 18-25, 25-22, 15-25, 26-28, in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum last Saturday.
Ishie Lalongisip led Adamson with 14 points and 12 excellent receptions, while AA Adolfo and Lucille Almonte contributed 12 markers apiece.
Staring at a 0-1 set disadvantage, Adamson turned up its floor defense in the second set and fended off UST’s comeback with Adolfo securing the win with a down-the-line hit.
The Golden Tigresses were quick to answer back in the third set, not looking back after establishing a 20-12 advantage to go up 2-1.
In the fourth frame, the Lady Falcons were well on their way to force a fifth set, but the Golden Tigresses held on and overcame a three-set-point disadvantage to end the match in four sets.
UST leaned on the troika of Angeline Poyos, Jonna Perdido, and Regine Jurado who scored 18, 16, and 12 points respectively.
Adamson closed out the first round with a 2-5 record, and will open the second round against FEU on Macrh 23, Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, 3pm.
