CAGAYAN DE ORO The Akari Chargers overpowered the Gerflor Defenders in straight sets, 25-18, 25-15, 25-19, to snap their three-game losing streak in the 2023 PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Aquilino Q. Pimentel Jr. International Convention Center, Saturday.

Faith Nisperos regained her form as she led the Chargers with 11 points coming from attacks.

Eli Soyud provided added boost from the bench with 11 markers as well, while Dindin Manabat and Fifi Sharma chipped in eight points apiece.

It was a seesaw battle to start the match as both teams traded points early on, but the Chargers began to tightened up their net defense to pull away midway through and win the set for good.

Akari kept its foot on the gas in the second frame, dominating the gutsy Defenders to take a two sets to none advantage.

Gerflor tried its best to keep in step in the third set, but Akari slipped the Defenders’ hopes of extending the match the Soyud-led bench ended the game in straight sets.

Danika Gendrauli led the scoring for Gerfor with nine points, while Mary Grace Berte and Jeanette Villareal contributed eight and six markers respectively.

With their fourth win in eight outings, the Chargers returned to the win column and will look to get another victory against the Galeries Tower Highrisers next Thursday, 4pm at the PhilSports Arena.
