Adamson falls short of comeback, drops Game 1 of SSL battle-for-bronze

The Adamson University Lady Falcons were denied of a reverse sweep by the Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws in five sets, 20-25, 19-25, 25-12, 25-14, 12-25, in Game 1 of the Shakey’s Super League Pre-season Championship Battle for Bronze at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, Friday.

In the first set, FEU came out of the gate on fire as they built a 17-11 lead. Adamson came to as close as three, but the Morayta-based squad stayed composed and took the opening set.

The Lady Falcons found themselves in the exact situation in the second frame, cutting a six-point lead down to three before running out of steam to go down 0-2.

The San Marcelino, then, woke up in the next set and turned things around behind the spark provided by Loren Toring.

Adamson dominated the third canto and looked like a rejuvenated team with a 13-point Set 3 win, and continued to overcome a two sets to nil disadvantage after the fourth.

In the deciding set, the Lady Tamaraws regrouped and blitzed to a five-point lead. The Lady Falcons once again attempted a comeback, but it was a little too late as Chenie Tagaod delivered the killing blow to seal the FEU win.

Ishie Lalongisip topped the scoring for AdU with 15 points in 13 attacks and two aces. Toring added 14 points, while the back-up middles Jen Villegas and Eloi Aljibe had eight and seven markers respectively.

Faida Bakangke took charge for FEU with 18 points, while Tagaod chipped in 12 markers.

The Lady Falcons will try to force a Game 3 as they face the Lady Tams again tomorrow, 2pm at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
