Erika Raagas proved to be a game changer in the Akari Chargers four-set win over the Farm Fresh Foxies last night in the second PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Ynares Center.
When the Chargers lost the first set, head coach Jorge Souza De Brito inserted Raagas in the second frame to give his team’s offense a different look.
True enough, the former Atenean opposite delivered as she scored 13 points to help Akari pull off a reverse sweep.
The Chargers also recorded their first back-to-back wins in franchise history, a testament to the team’s progress since joining the league, according to Raagas.
“In the past few seasons when we stepped into the court, it was kind of 50/50. Kulang pa rin kami that time kahit na we really wanted to win but we just physically couldn’t yet, so this is really a boost for the team especially because siguro before when opponents think of Akari, ‘Oh it’s just Akari,’ but now, ‘Oh it’s Akari.'”
With the addition of La Salle standouts Fifi Sharma and Justine Jazareno, Raagas sees a complete Akari squad that is ready to charge to the next level.
“Everyone coming in this season is super motivated, super hungry to win and I think that we have the people that we need for the things that we were lacking in the past few seasons. We’re more than ready to fight and get that podium finish.”
