CANDON CITY, ILOCOS SUR — The Nxled Chameleons brought the fight, but got warded off by veteran-laden Petro Gazz Angels in three sets, 23-25, 21-25, 22-25, in the second PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Candon Sports Arena, Saturday.

Lycha Ebon and Cams Victoria scored 10 points apiece with the latter getting three markers from blocking department. Jhoana Maraguinot and May Luna hit nine points each for the Chameleons.

On the flip side, Aiza Pontillas led the way for Petro Gazz with 15 points in 13 attacks and two blocks. Grethcel Soltones posted 10 points, while Jonah Sabete added 10.

The Chameleons stayed within shouting distance in the first set before the Angels outlasted them to race to the opening frame win.

In the second set, Nxled clawed back from a five-point deficit, but again fell short as it fell down to a 0-2 sets disadvantage.

The Chameleons, however, did not go down without a fight, putting up a scare behind Judith Abil and Lia Pelaga’s off-the-bench spark.

Unfortunately, breaks went the Angels’ way as they pull away late to secure the victory.

Nxled libero Rachel Jorvino and Maraguinot did they best to protect the floor with 13 and 10 excellent dogs respectively against Petro Gazz’s Baby Love Barbon’s 13.

The Chameleons drop to a 1-2 (win-loss) record, while the Angels improve to 3-0 for solo second.

Up next for the Chameleons are the PLDT High Speed Hitters on November 2, Thursday, 2pm at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna.
