A TOTAL of 20 teams across the country will compete in the Akari Cup Bacolod Leg Girls 15U tournament, which kicks off on Wednesday at the St. John’s Institute covered court in Bacolod City.
The Akari Cup is part of a five-day grassroots volleyball initiative in Negros Occidental focused on coach education, athlete development, and competitive exposure for young volleyball players across the region.
A three-day tournament, it will focus on Athlete Exposure and Development, Character Building Through Competition, and the Grassroots Volleyball Celebration.
The 20 squads were broken down into four pools, with Trinity Christian School, Bacolod Tay Tung A, Sanjus Cuties-Cebu, BNHS Phoenix, and La Salle-Zobel A in Pool A, while Talisay City Floor Defenders, St. John’s Institute A, DVT Volleyball Club, Team La Salle, and Ateneo De Iloilo are in Pool B.
La Salle-Zobel B, Sagay Ad Astra, Prime Volleyball Club, Alpha Foxies, and St. John’s Institute are in Pool C. Madeleine Academy, Bacolod Tay Tung B, Darnatics Volleyball Club, San Carlos City Volleyball Team, and Team Animo (USLS) comprise Pool D.
The Akari Cup continues its mission of creating pathways for young athletes through quality competition, education, and mentorship. Beyond wins and losses, the event focuses on helping players fall deeper in love with the game while building the future of Philippine volleyball.
The program, which is supported by Akari Lighting, Nxled, Spike and Serve Philippines, Inc., St. John’s Institute, and Mizuno.
Nature’s Spring, Mangkas Apparel, and Sugba Sugba actually began on Monday with Coaches Workshops and Volleyball Clinics in San Carlos City and Pontevedra.
Led by Dzi Gervacio, Akari Cup Program Director, Nicole Tiamzon, Akari Cup Technical Director and SSPI President, and Shannen Palec, SSPI Vice President, the Akari Cup aims to help young athletes and coaches grow through learning, competition, and meaningful community engagement.
As part of its continued commitment to grassroots sports development, Akari Cup and Spike and Serve Philippines will also conduct community support initiatives through the donation of volleyballs and lighting equipment from Akari and Nxled for outdoor activity areas.
These donations aim to help local communities create safer and more accessible spaces for training and recreation, allowing young athletes to continue playing, practicing, and developing their passion for the sport beyond the duration of the Akari Cup.
Over at Pontevedra on Tuesday, the Coaches Workshop & Volleyball Clinic
Activities will have Advanced Coaching Discussions, Youth Volleyball Development Sessions, Position-Specific Training, Team Culture & Leadership Sessions, and Volleyball Clinic for Local Athletes.
