VETERAN playmaker Gel Cayuna and middle blocker Jackie Acuña have been secured by Nxled ahead of the Premier Volleyball League season, the club announced Saturday afternoon.
Both Cayuna and Acuña were part of Cignal squad that reached the All-Filipino Conference Finals last month, before the Super Spikers decided to take a leave of absence from the league.
The 27-year-old Cayuna recently captured her second straight Season Best Setter award, adding to her collection of five Conference Best Setter honors.
With Cayuna expected to lead the playmaking department, she will be a good mentor to incoming sophomore Jules Tolentino. The Chameleons also have Djanel Cheng and Joyme Cagande as the squad’s other setters.
It will be Cayuna’s third PVL team, as the Far Eastern University standout first played with Perlas in 2021 before suiting up for Cignal in the last five years.
Acuña, meanwhile, is a former Best Middle Blocker awardee and is set to bolster an already stacked Nxled frontline.
MJ Phillips, Aduke Ogunsanya, Aby Maraño, Ranya Musa, Krich Macaslang, and Jaycel Delos Reyes are in the Chameleons’ middle blocker position.
Nxled, which absorbed the core of last year’s Reinforced Conference champion PetroGazz, hopes to bounce back after missing the semifinals of the All-Filipino tournament.
The PVL on Tour is slated for next month.
