Akari continues to show its support to the growth of Philippine sports.
Akari Lighting and Technology Corporation and the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) have officially sealed their groundbreaking partnership with a successful contract signing held at the Atencio-Libunao Hall in UP Diliman, Tuesday.
This significant event marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for collegiate sports in the Philippines.
The partnership between Akari and the UAAP is driven by a shared vision to enhance the sports experience for athletes and fans.
Christopher Tiu, CEO of Akari Lighting and Technology, highlighted the motivation behind the collaboration.
“The partnership is driven by a mutual desire for both parties to collaborate and provide UAAP fans with a regular venue where games can be enjoyed and sportsmanship can be fostered,” Tiu said.
With the agreement now in place, Akari’s immediate goal is to build a world-class sports venue that caters to the athletes’ needs to boost their development.
“Our goal is to create a world-class sports venue that addresses the needs of the UAAP member schools and their athletes for all sports developmental requirements,” he said.
The new arena will provide the UAAP member schools and their athletes with a home arena they can call their own.
Tiu also shared his enthusiasm for the project, noting, “The home of the UAAP will be more than a sports structure; it will be a lifestyle complex that combines sports development activities with family and student recreation features.”
This vision underscores the ambition to create a facility that offers more than just sports amenities, enhancing the overall experience for the UAP community and beyond.
The construction of the UAAP Arena is scheduled to be completed within three years from the signing of the contract, and the facility is expected to host events for the upcoming UAAP seasons.
This timeline ensures that the arena will soon become a central hub for collegiate sports and community engagement.
The arena will be located in Pasig City and will feature a 6,000-seating capacity. It will host most of the UAAP basketball and volleyball games, except for those that require a larger venue. However, the arena will not only cater to the mentioned sports but will also be open to other UAAP sports and leagues.
The successful conclusion of the contract signing marks a pivotal moment in the evolution of collegiate sports in the Philippines. The partnership between Akari and the UAAP is set to transform the sports landscape, promising exciting opportunities and memorable experiences for athletes, fans, and the broader community.
