The Akari Chargers stunned the defending champions Petro Gazz Angels with another reverse sweep, winning 23-25, 25-21, 25-23, 29-27, 16-17 in Pool B of the PVL 2024 Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City on Saturday.

After scoring an epic come-from-behind win over the Choco Mucho Flying Titans last Tuesday, the Chargers dug deep once more to secure their third victory in as many games.
Oly Okaro led Akari’s charge with 31 points composed of 29 attacks, one block, and one ace, after an explosive 38-point performance against Choco Mucho. The American import also showed her defensive prowess with 11 excellent receptions.
Grethcel Soltones continued her stellar all-around performance as she contributed 19 points and 10 excellent receptions, while Ivy Lacsina added 18 points.
On the other hand, Brooke Van Sickle topped the scoring for the Angels with 24 points from 20 attacks, one block, and three aces, while Wilma Salas contributed 22 points.
With the win, Akari recorded its best start and bagged its first victory against Petro Gazz since joining the league in 2022.
The Coach Taka Minowa-led squad is now tied with Cignal at the top of Pool B with a 3-0 win-loss slate.
The Chargers will aim for their fourth straight win against the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles on Thursday, August 1, at 5 p.m. at the same venue.
