Akari import Oly Okaro erupted for 38 points to fuel the Chargers’ reverse sweep over the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 18-25, 16-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-13, in Pool B of the PVL 2024 Reinforced Conference at the PhilSports Arena, Pasig City on Tuesday.

Okaro scattered her scoring in 33 attacks, two blocks, and three aces in Akari’s second straight victory, while Grethcel Soltones flirted with another triple-double performance with 12 points, nine excellent digs, and 13 excellent receptions.

Despite the win, the Chargers were once again plagued with errors, tallying 40 miscues throughout the match.

Choco Mucho capitalized on Akari’s reception issues in the first two sets as the former dominated the latter midway through the sets to establish a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

The Chargers, however, picked things up defensively in the third frame with Soltones taking charge in protecting the floor to give her team more chances to attack.

Okaro knocked down a back-row bomb from the opposite side of the floor to build an 18-14 advantage and never looked back to clinch the third.

Trailing early in the fourth canto, 6-11, Akari refused to wave the white flag as Okaro took charge to keep the Chargers in the game and force a fifth set.

With momentum clearly on Akari’s side, the Chargers built a quick 3-0 lead in the deciding set, but the Flying Titans fought back as both teams traded hits with the score tied at 10-all.

Akari, on the verge of an upset, did not let the opportunity slip away as Okaro delivered the killing blow to end the 2 hours and 24-minute match.

Dindin Santiago-Manabat paced Choco Mucho with 16 points, while Royse Tubino and Zoi Faki chipped in 14 points apiece.

The Chargers will gun for their third consecutive victory in their match-up against the Petro Gazz Angels on July 26, Saturday at the same venue in Pasig City.
