The Akari Chargers blanked the Galeries Tower Highrisers, 25-17, 25-19, 25-20, in the PVL 2024 All-Filipino Conference at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex in Laguna City, Saturday.
Akari put an end to a two-game losing streak and won its third game in eight outings to stay in the hunt for a semifinals slot.
On the other hand, Galeries Tower is now out of contention after suffering its six loss in eight games.
Setter Michelle Cobb earned her third Best Player of the Game honors as she tossed 18 excellent sets.
Dindin Manabat led the scoring with 16 points built on 13 attacks, two blocks, and an ace, while Grethcel Soltones and Fifi Sharma tallied 12 and 10 markers respectively.
Libero Bang Pineda patrolled the floor as she posted 16 excellent digs.
It was a nip-and-tuck affair midway through the set as both teams were tied at 18-apiece before the Chargers went on a 7-1 run capped off by Dindin Manabat’s off-the-block hit.
In the second set, Galeries Tower tried to keep in step with Akari. However, the latter unleashed another 9-2 blast to shrug off the former for a comfortable 2-0 lead.
In the third frame, though, the Chargers survived a late scare from the Highrisers before Eli Soyud eventually finished them off.
The Chargers will go for their second consecutive victory when they face the Capital 1 Solar Spikers on April 11, Thursday at the PhilSports Arena at 4 p.m.
