The Akari Chargers made quick work of the Farm Fresh Foxies, 25-19, 25-15, 25-22, to secure their first win in the PVL 2024 All-Filipino Conference at the PhilSports Arena, Tuesday night.
The Chargers, leading two sets to none in the match, found themselves trailing in the third set, 18-20, after a cross-court hit from Chinnie Arroyo.
Akari, however, did not let the opportunity of a getting a sweep slip away as it went on to a 7-2 run to seal the victory.
Team captain Michelle Cobb was named the Best Player of the Game as she dished out 16 excellent sets and converted three points off two blocks and one attack.
Wingers Grethcel Soltones, Eli Soyud, and Erika Raagas were the top scorers for the Chargers, notching 16, 14, and 10 points, respectively. Meanwhile, middle blockers Ced Domingo and Fifi Sharma contributed nine and eight points each to the team’s tally.
Libero Bang Pineda also made her mark, posting 20 excellent digs in 71.4% efficiency.
On the flip side, Farm Fresh’s Trisha Tube led her team in scoring with 10 points, while Arroyo added nine points.
Akari improved to 1-2 after three game, and now eyes its second straight win as the Chargers collide with the Petro Gazz Angels on March 9, Saturday, 4pm at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
