SANTA ROSA, LAGUNA — The gutsy Nxled Chameleons could not sustain a first-set win as they bowed down to the PLDT High Speed Hitters in four sets, 25-22, 17-25, 11-25, 20-25, in the PVL All-Filipino Conference at the Santa Rosa Sports Complex, Thursday.

The Chameleons displayed discipline in the opening frame, minimizing their errors and showing their cohesiveness to get race to a 1-0 advantage.

Unfortunately, it all went down hill from there.

PLDT capitalized on Nxled’s reception issues with the latter only converting seven and eight attack points in the second and third sets respectively. The High Speed Hitters dominated the Chameleons in the next two sets to take the driver’s seat after the third.

In the fourth canto, Chiara Permentilla tried to pump some life back to Nxled after a barrage of service aces to cut the deficit to four late; however, PLDT spilled the hopes of the Chameleons and shut down a comeback attempt off a Rachel Austero running hit.

Lycha Ebon was the only Chameleon to enter the double-digit scoring zone with 11 points. Permentilla chipped in seven points off the bench with four coming from the service line, while Jhoana Maraguinot and Judith Abil added six markers each.

Rachel Jorvina and Dani Raveno did their best to keep the ball alive with nine excellent digs apiece. Moreover, Maraguinot and Abil tallied 15 and 10 excellent receptions separately.

On PLDT’s end, Savannah Davison erupted for 21 points, while Erika Santos and Honey Royse Tubino posted 17 and 13 markers respectively. Setter Rhea Dimaculangan was named as the Best Player of the Game with 20 excellent sets.

Kath Arado made life hard for Nxled’s attackers as she racked up 18 excellent digs and 11 excellent receptions.

On November 7, the Chameleons (1-3) will take on the Choco Mucho Flying Titans at the PhilSports Arena at 2pm.
