High-speed PLDT too much for Akari in PVL return

Dell Palomata continued her dominance over Akari as she spearheaded PLDT to a three-set win over the Chargers in the 2023 PVL Invitational Conference Saturday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

Palomata, who also starred in the High Speed Hitters’ wins over Akari last season, led all scorers with 14 points off 10 kills, three blocks and an ace.

PLDT started off strong behind Palomata’s quick hits and the Chargers could only make it close in the third set of the 15-25, 19-25, 22-25 defeat — their first in the midseason spectacle.

Jovie Prado and Mich Morente added to Akari’s woes with 13 and 11 markers, respectively, even as Jessey de Leon and Royse Tubino chipped in with eight apiece.

The Chargers struggled on just 27.4% of their spike attempts as much-anticipated rookie Faith Nisperos  in her PVL debut with 5 points, Dindin with 9 attacks.

Trisha Genesis, in her first start of the season, was solid with nine points off seven kills, one block and the team’s lone ace while delivering 45% excellent receptions.

Mich Cobb had her best blocking game in the pro ranks with three blocks, but only Dindin Santiago-Manabat barged into double figures with 10 points.
