Chargers take on fellow winless team Army

Akari hopes to finally break out of a funk as the Chargers take on another winless squad in Philippine Army in the 2023 PVL All-Filipino Conference Tuesday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Both teams are at the bottom of the standings with a combined 0-5 record although the Lady Troopers have been able to win a set in the tournament while Akari has laid an egg in that department so far.

Despite the bad record so far, coach Jorge De Brito isn’t about to press the panic button just yet.

“The system as a whole must work to the point where we can be competitive even when performance fluctuates,” he said, as the Chargers continue to look for two-way production from the open and middle positions.

“This takes time and we are not satisfied yet,” he added. “As I told you before, constant improvement is our focus.”

That — and a win — would be the goal for Akari as they battle one of the three teams they defeated in the 2022 PVL Reinforced Conference.

And as in all matches, it is easier said than done.

The Lady Troopers have not win two matches, but gave league leader Chery Tiggo a little scare in their tussle, stealing a set before succumbing in four against the Crossovers.

Royse Tubino and Jeanette Villareal will be marked women for the Chargers even as Dindin Santiago-Manabat and Janine Marciano will be the top offensive options De Brito will bank on.
