Balanced Cignal attack keeps Akari winless

Cignal unleashed a balanced attack to send Akari spiraling into their third straight loss in the 2023 PVL All-Filipino Conference on Valentine’s Day at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Six HD Spikers finished with at least six points in the 25-23, 25-20, 25-14 sweep that broke a two-game losing streak and barge into the win column.

Rachel Anne Daquis led the charge with 11 points off eight hits and three blocks while Roselyn Doria, Ces Molina, Chay Troncoso, Riri Meneses and reserve Chin Basas combined for 37 points.

Akari and Cignal were locked in a tight battle in the first two sets, with the HD Spikers just scoring enough points in crunch time to pull through, but the Chargers came out of the third with a power outage and boy did Cignal take advantage.

As Akari fell into a maze of miscues and miscommunication, the HD Spikers banked on their plethora of scorers to shut the door on the ladies in black. Dindin Santiago-Manabat was checked in this game, but still finished with 11 points while Janine Marciano used her smarts to come away with seven markers.

However, only Chiara Permentilla reached five points as the rest of the Chargers sputtered on both offense and defense.
