Akari, Cignal Seek Maiden Wins in 2023 PVL All-Filipino Conference

Both winless after two starts, Akari and Cignal lock horns to determine who gets a first victory in the 2023 PVL All-Filipino Conference Tuesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The Chargers and the HD Spikers have combined to lose all 12 sets they’ve played in so far, but both squads are expected to lay it all down in their Valentine’s Day tussle.

Leading the charge for Akari is Dindin Santiago-Manabat, who has been the lone bright spot on offense for the ladies in magenta in the first two games.

The 6-foot-2 opposite has normed 16.5 points, but has failed to get any consistent support from her teammates as the Chargers bowed to Choco Mucho and F2 Logistics — teams they defeated in 2022.

Janine Marciano is next with 10.5 points per game and coach Jorge De Brito is looking for answers as he continues to get minimal statistical production from his middle blockers.

On the other hand, Cignal, which took the silver medal in the 2022 PVL Reinforced Conference, has had an equally rough start, as their usually vaunted offense has sputtered so far.

Ces Molina is the only productive wing spiker at 14 points per game even as their usual suspects in Riri Meneses, Roselyn Doria and Rachel Anne Daquis have fallen silent.
