Akari taps Souza De Brito as head coach

Ahead of their maiden season in the Philippine Volleyball League (PVL), the Akari Power Chargers has tapped no less than national team coach and Olympic gold medalist Jorge Edson Souza De Brito as its head coach.

De Brito, who was part of Brazil’s gold medal-winning squad in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, will be taking his first PVL coaching assignment, a year after arriving in the Philippines to coach the women’s national team.

The team announced June 30 the signing on social media, as pundits expect the Brazilian coach to steer the team bannered by Trisha Genesis, Michelle Cobb, and Jho Maraguinot to a stellar showing in its first-ever season in the country’s only professional volleyball league.
