For Rivera, win is more important than scoring record

SAN JUAN — She might have broken a record, but the win was more important for Prisilla Rivera.

As Akari was teetering on the brink of elimination from the 2022 PVL Reinforced Conference, Rivera summoned all her might to help the Chargers beat Choco Mucho and keep their hopes alive Thursday night at the FilOil Flying V Centre here.

The import from the Dominican Republic sizzled throughout the match and finished with a record 44 points, delivering more than half of Akari’s 75 kills with 39 of her own.

But despite the monster outing, Rivera said it won’t mean anything had the Chargers not pulled out the hard-earned win.

“I’m happy because of our winning and scoring points, but most important is we need the win,” she said. “I can have two points. Even if I make 50 or more, if we lose, it doesn’t matter.”

The victory pulled Akari to within shouting distance of the top four with a 2-4 record. The Chargers’ Final Four hopes are not entirely in their hands alone, but they have to take care of business in their last two matches to even have a chance.
