THE Akari Sparks had a great harvest of talents in the inaugural Women’s Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League Draft held at Xentromall Montalban in Rizal on Sunday.
Former Adamson standout Mar Prado went to the Sparks as the No. 1 overall pick.
Shem Abatayo, who had a solid one-and-done season with Far Eastern University last year, is Akari’s other first-round pick.
Joann Nagma, Abatayo’s FEU teammate, was selected in the second round, while Mica Pentecostes, a product of Los Medanor College in Pittsburg, California, was nabbed in the third.
Capping the Sparks’ impressive draft haul is Nikki Villasin in the fourth round. Villasin steered the University of Santo Tomas to a 2023 UAAP women’s basketball championship by scoring the game-winner.
