Hua Ming Falcons outlast UST, complete unbeaten PSAA title run

ST. John’s Institute Hua Ming completed an undefeated campaign in the Philippine Schools Athletic Association (PSAA) Invitational Volleyball Championship after repulsing University of Santo Tomas, 17-25, 25-15, 27-25, 25-19, in the Final on Friday at a Citi Arena in Sta. Mesa, Manila.

The Bacolod-based Falcons, backed by the Nxled Chameleons, won all of their six matches, including a 4-0 sweep of pool play.

In the semifinal, St. John’s Institute Hua Ming defeated reigning reigning UAAP high school girls champion National University Nazareth School, 25-12, 25-17.

Aside from beating the Junior Tigresses and the Bullpups in the group stage, the Falcons also defeated Polynesian Volleyball New Zealand and Domus Crosscourt Volleyball Club.

Caera Celis, who was sensational in the Final, bagged the tournament MVP honors.

Marteena Ferrer, who keyed in the semifinal win against NUNS, secured the Best Opposite Hitter plum.

The Best Middle Blocker award went to Marthena Echarri while the Best Setter hardware went to Mishaella Geraldizo.

The Falcons’ PSAA triumph solidified their investment in grassroots volleyball.
