The Adamson University (AdU) Lady Falcons held their ground in a four-set defeat to the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses, 21-25, 25-20, 25-13, 27-25, in the first round of the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Saturday.

Down 19-23 in the fourth frame, Shaina Nitura and Frances Mordi spearheaded Adamson’s comeback bid with the latter hitting cross court to tie the set at 24-all.

The Lady Falcons even took the lead after Pia Abbu’s attack did not cross the net, but UST stayed composed as it forced AdU to commit errors to secure its third straight win.

Nitura once again topped the scoring for Adamson, exploding for 28 points built from 26 attacks and two aces. The first-year hitter also did work on the defensive end with 14 digs and 12 receptions, while Mordi contributed 13 points in 12 attacks and one ace.

Setter Fhei Sagaysay fanned out 19 excellent sets, while libero Juris Manuel had a steady outing with 14 digs and 12 receptions for the Lady Falcons who dropped to an even 2-2 win-loss record.

On the flip side, Angge Poyos led the way for the UST with 21 points, while Reg Jurado and Abbu added 17 and 10 points, respectively, for the now 3-1 Golden Tigresses.
