Fil-German recruit Lana Barrera ‘absolutely overjoyed’ to be part of Adamson community

Akari Sports announced Lana Barrera as the newest addition to the Lady Falcon’s nest.

The 17-year-old Fil-German will boost Adamson University, which already boasts impressive rookies such as Shaina Nitura, Felicity Sagaysay, Mary Ann Grace Del Moral, and Frances Mordi in its pool.

When asked via text about the opportunity to play for the True Blue, the 5’8 outside hitter could not contain her excitement.

“I am so excited to get to know my Lady Falcon teammates and exploring different ways to play volleyball and encounter new situations that I’m not familiar with since I am coming from another country,” Barrera replied.

The Los Alamitos High School student bared that Adamson’s ‘vibrant and welcoming community’ with the opportunity to play volleyball at a high level, influenced her decision.

Moreover, Barrera expressed her gratitude to the Adamson staff for welcoming her with open arms and going out of their way to ensure she had everything she needed, making the recruitment process seamless.

“I am so grateful for the Adamson team and staff for being so welcoming and being flexible with giving me the information I needed in order to secure my spot on the team,” Barrera said.

Barrera excels both on and off the volleyball court, maintaining a 4.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) while actively participating in the Student Leadership Team, Christian with a Mission and Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and earning ASL honoree recognition. She also shows leadership skills by volunteering as an assistant volleyball coach.

When she officially joins the Lady Falcons in training, Barrera will be ready to add another dimension to the San Marcelino squad.

“What I can bring to the table for the Lady Falcons is my open-mindedness, dedication, and hard work to stay at the competitive level, and my adaptability to a new country, school, and team,” she shared.

For now, Barrera is completing high school as a student-athlete at Los Alamitos High School in California before flying to the Philippines to start her collegiate volleyball career.

“I am absolutely overjoyed to be immersed in the Adamson community and to learn from my roots and the culture that I am from. [I am] so grateful and excited to be part of the team and Adamson University family. Salamat po!”

Barrera will be eligible to play for the Lady Falcons for five years beginning in UAAP Season 88.
