The Akari Chargers wallops the Farm Fresh Foxies in three sets, 25-19, 25-22, 25-19, to stay unblemished in the PVL 2024 Reinforced Conference at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan, Tuesday night.
Akari secured its eighth victory in as many outings, sweeping the preliminary rounds to head into the quarterfinals as the top seed.
Oly Okaro propelled the Chargers with 18 points and nine excellent digs, while Grethcel Soltones chipped in 15 points, including 12 attacks, two aces, and one block. Ivy Lacsina rounded out the Chargers’ scoring trio with 14 points, consisting of 13 attacks and one block.
Team captain Michelle Cobb had another stellar outing as she fanned out 17 excellent sets and added six points.
The Chargers and the Foxies exchanged hits throughout the first set, with the Chargers leading by just two, 18-16, after a quick strike from Cams Victoria. Gaining momentum, the Chargers pulled ahead later in the set, unleashing a 7-3 run to secure the opening set.
In the second frame, Farm Fresh established an early 10-7 advantage. However, Akari regained its footing midway through the set and took the lead at 19-17 after Soltones’ cross-court hit. The Chargers did not look back, as Lacsina delivered the set point, giving her team a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
Akari took control from then on, keeping Farm Fresh at bay before ultimately pulling away to finish off the Foxies in three sets.
Yeny Murillo topped the scoring for the Foxies with 14 points, while Caitlyn Viray registered 10 points and six excellent digs.
Depending on the outcome of the Choco Mucho Flying Titans’ last preliminary game on Thursday, Akari and Farm Fresh may once again face each other in the quarterfinals happening this Saturday.
