The Philippines bounced back after two losses in the group stage.

The Akari-Philippines U18 Women’s Volleyball Team shrugged off a gutsy stand from India in four sets, 26-24, 15-25, 25-19, 25-22, to start its classification phase in the 15th Asian Women’s U18 Volleyball Championship at the Ratchaburi Gymnasium in Ratchaburi, Thailand last Thursday.

With a 2-1 lead in the match, the Philippines kept India at bay in the fourth set as opposite hitter Jaila Adrao gave the Pinays a 15-12 advantage midway through.

However, the Indians turned the tides and answered with a 5-0 run grab a 17-15 cushion.

The match went tit-for-tat from then on with both teams knotted at 21-all.

Fortunately, the Akari U18 girls got their acts together as Denesse Daylisan and a string of errors from India secured the victory for the Philippines.

Akari-Philippines won two straight sets after India’s dominant second-frame win.

The Pinays started out strong in the match, escaping their foes in the tight opening set behind an attack and an ace from Adrao and Akeyla Bartolabac, respectively.

Daylisan had her best game yet in a Philippine jersey, leading her squad with 22 points including 20 attacks, one block, and one ace, while Adrao and Bartolabac added 14 and 12 markers, respectively.

The Philippines will play one more match at the same venue on Saturday, 5:30 p.m. (Philippine time) to determine their final ranking in the tournament.
