After opening the PVL 2024 All-Filipino Conference at 0-2, the Akari Chargers barged into the win column with a sweeping victory over the Farm Fresh Foxies.
Team captain Michelle Cobb heaved a sigh of relief as her team finally clinched its first win following a rough start.
“Siyempre lahat naman po kami masaya and kailangan din po namin yung win today so sana maging headstart samin na makakuha kami ng future wins,” Cobb said.
The Chargers unleashed their plethora of scoring options with Cobb showcasing her masterful playmaking, dishing out 16 excellent sets.
Akari showed glimpse of its full potential against Farm Fresh in the three-set affair. However, there’s still a long way to go for the retooled squad as far as they connection on court is concerned.
“Hindi ko rin kasi tinatanim sa [isip] ko na okay na kami kasi every training may mga natututunan akong bago lalo na sa mga new players namin so for me ongoing process yan all the time and sana yung peak namin, hindi ngayon kundi sa dulo.”
Still, Cobb mentioned that last Tuesday’s win was a result of having that mindset to win despite being in the early phase of building their connection.
Sa training din naman kasi makikita na kumbaga may goal yung bawat isa, and siguro nagbunga din yung mindset na yun (manalo) today kasi given na nagkikilala pa kami sa isa’t isa in terms of composition, yung mga galaw ng bawat isa,” the 25-yea-old skipper said.
For Cobb, Akari’s success ultimately depends on whether every player is heading on the same direction.
At the end of the day depende pa rin yun sa kung same ba kami ng pupuntahan, same ba kami ng goal so lumabas naman siya and I guess yun marami pa kaming matututunan sa bawat isa na pwede naming maayos pa and para mas manalo pa kami in the future games.”
