Grethcel Soltones finally made her much-anticipated debut for the Akari Chargers last Saturday.

Heading to her first match as a Charger, Soltones played with the same approach as she did in the past—laying everything down on the floor.

“Same mindset na all out every game, yun talaga, walang bago-bago so kanina nakikita niyo naman ako na kumukulit ako sa loob, dinadala ko sila lalo na sa yung good vibes energy,” Soltones said.

And that the Lady Beast did.

Despite losing to the Cignal HD Spikers in four sets, the decorated outside hitter quickly made an impact for her new team by scoring 14 points (11 from attacks and three from blocks) and collecting 12 excellent digs and 13 excellent receptions. She came out firing on all cylinders while also contributing on defense.

It wasn’t the outcome Akari wanted, but the veteran winger is trusting the process as the Chargers build more chemistry as the games progress.

“Nag-usap [kami] kanina na first game [pa lang], hindi naman masama pero kinulang lang talaga, so ang kulang namin as a team is yung patience namin [sa execution]. Yun nga [may mga] bagong salta, and also isa ako sa mga bago,” Soltones said.

Although starting off with a loss, Soltones lauded the team’s accountability in the defeat, which will help them moving forward.

“Open sila sa pagkakamali nila and talagang aral lang kami as a team,” she added.

The Chargers look to bounce back against the defending champions Creamline Cool Smashers on Thursday, February 29 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
