It was a rousing debut for the San Marcelino-based squad.
The Adamson University (AdU) Lady Falcons scored an impressive sweep of Jose Maria College (JMC) Foundation, 25-17, 25-11, 25-17 in the 2023 Shakey’s Super League National Invitationals at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan, July 29.
Newcomer Red Bascon took over for Adamson, knocking down six of her 11 points in the third set while playing with her high school teammates and co-rookies Juris Manuel, Jao Cuenca, and Elio Aljibe. Bascon showed her all-around game, with eight attacks and three blocks.
Ishie Lalongisip, who was hailed as the best player of the game, tallied nine points including seven in the second set where the Lady Falcons dominated JMC.
The school from Davao kept in step with Adamson early in the first set, before the latter pulled away midway through via powerful attacks.
Ayesha Juegos and Jen Villegas also displayed solid outings for AdU with six points apiece. Moreover, seniors Lucille Almonte and Lorene Toring had no problem taking a step back as they were mostly fielded in in the first two sets. Team captain Almonte chipped in seven points, while Toring had four.
On the flip side, Dianne Brion topscored JMC with eights points, while Johma Palero added six markers.
Lalongisip told Akari Sports that the win was a fruit of the hard work they put on in practice.
“Yung game namin kanina is talagang pinaghandaan namin, nagsipag kami sa training kaya siguro naging magaan din sa bawat isa and kita naman din sa game na nag-enjoy lang so ayun naging maganda yung result,” she said.
Despite the win however, former Adamson standout Bascon noted that Adamson needs to lessen their miscues on the court and that
“Madami pa pong need i-workout lalo na yung sa errors po namin. Need po namin i-minimize then tuloy-tuloy lang po sa training,” said the wing spiker.
