SPIKER RED BASCON COMMITS TO ADAMSON FOR COLLEGE

The volleyball grassroots program of Adamson University and Akari looks to have further player development as it secured the commitment of one of the Baby Falcons’ Season 85 top guns in Red Bascon.

Bascon and team captain Shaina Nitura served as Adamson’s one-two punch in the scoring department in the last round of the UAAP juniors volleyball action where the girls’ volleyball team finished in second place.

And now that her tour of duty in the juniors division has ended, the outside hitter is staying put and hoping to further hone her skills under the Adamson-Akari program.

“Pinag-isipan ko po talaga pero palaging ang ending is mas gusto ko po mag stay. Mas gusto ko po ituloy ‘yung nasimulan ko na dito sa Adamson,” Bascon told Akari Sports.

“‘Yung system and support po kasi from both Adamson and Akari talagang solid. Masasabi mong alagang-alaga ka,” she added. “Hindi po kasi madali maging student-athlete pero with their support and pagtitiwala sa kakayahan mo, gumagaan po kahit papano.”

Prior to Bascon committing to Adamson and Akari, her teammate and setter Jao Cuenca has already announced that she, too, will be staying in San Marcelino for college.

They are just two of the 10 senior high school students from Adamson’s Season 85 lineup who already used up their UAAP eligibility in the high school ranks.

And with the Lady Falcons returning to the semifinals in the seniors division after nine long years, Bascon, who was formerly a middle blocker, will be a great addition to the team’s firepower as she joins the likes of Kate Santiago, Lucille Almonte, and AA Adolfo among others.

She is, however, the most excited to be teammates with opposite spiker Trisha Tubu.

“Lahat po sila idol ko pero pinaka-gusto ko po maging teammate si Ate (Trisha) Tubs (Tubu). Despite po sa mga bashers niya, nakikita ko sa kanya na hindi siya nagpapa-apekto talaga. Kaya po dahil dun, inspired ako,” Bascon shared.
