LORENE TORING OFFERS NO EXCUSES AFTER ADAMSON LOSS TO NU: “MASAMA TALAGA”

For veteran Lorene Toring, their second round loss to defending champion National University is Adamson’s worst performance so far in the UAAP Season 85 Women’s Volleyball Tournament.

And the numbers from the game can back up this observation.

Aside from getting swept, 24-26, 16-25, 22-25, no one among the Lady Falcons scored in double digits as they looked lost the entire match, a complete contrast to how they pushed the Lady Bulldogs to five sets in their round one matchup.

“Masama talaga ginalaw namin. Sobrang iba po siya sa usual na kaya naming gawin. Masakit man sa mata but I think kailangan po namin siya mapanood sa viewing para makita namin anong dapat gawin,” Toring told Akari Sports a day after the match.

Though Adamson is a better digging team than NU (ranked third and fourth, respectively), the Lady Bulldogs outperformed the San Marcelino crew in floor defense with 42 excellent digs compared to their 33.

And while some may speculate that the sluggish performance could be due to the long holiday break of the UAAP during the Holy Week, the middle blocker offers no excuses and even takes accountability for their poor performance.

“Wala pong excuses dapat. Mas handa ang NU. Mas ginusto nila manalo,” she said.

“Sa akin naman po, nag struggle din ako maka-kapa ng bola at makasara ng block kaya siguro nahirapan din po ‘yung likod namin dumepensa,” she added.

The self-awareness might serve Toring good as she knows a repeat of such a performance might still put them in danger in the Final Four race despite their 7-3 record, tying UST and NU in second place in the standings.

“Alam naman po ng bawat isa sa amin na hindi maganda ang kinalabasan ng last game at kung saan kami nagkulang individually,” admitted the Cebuana.

“Pagtatrabahuhan po namin para makabawi at makabalik kami sa dating galaw namin as a team,” she added.

The Lady Falcons will be facing University of the East on Saturday, April 15, at the PhilSports Arena.
