On a mission: Big D carries Chargers on her back in gripping win over Chery Tiggo

Dindin Santiago-Manabat was on a mission.

Facing off against the team that benched her for most of the last conference, she wouldn’t let this opportunity to prove herself slide.

So when her new team Akari took on Chery Tiggo, there was no stopping Big D.

The 6-foot-2 opposite unleashed her wrath on the Crossovers, firing a season-high of 26 points as the Chargers outlasted the Crossovers in a gripping five-set battle in the 2023 PVL All-Filipino Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

With Akari looking for a primary offensive option, Manabat answered the call and scored against her former team from all over the court, delivering 24 kills, a block and an ace as the Chargers took a 16-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-21, 15-11 triumph Saturday night.

As usual, the ladies in white were plagued by a slow start, but it was Manabat’s consistency that kept them afloat when their attack was sputtering.

When Mama D got help, however, Akari rolled to impressive performances.

This time, heroes in the form of Jaja Maraguinot, Erika Raagas and Ezra Madrigal rose up, providing crucial contributions as the Chargers upped their win-loss record to 2-4.

More importantly, Akari virtually derailed Chery Tiggo’s chances of moving onto the next round. The loss evened the Crossovers’ card at 3-3 with matches against Choco Mucho and PetroGazz remaining on their card.
