University of Santo Tomas banked on fresher legs down the stretch to outlast Adamson in a gruelling five-set match that spanned two calendar days to open the 2022 Shakey’s Super League at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.
In a battle that started almost four hours late and ended at around 1:15am, the Golden Tigresses growled behind the hot hands of Pierre Abellana and the power of Eya Laure to edge the Soaring Falcons, 25-20, 27-29, 15-25, 29-27, 15-10.

The UST victory spoiled the debut of new Adamson head coach Jerry Yee, who was tapped to replace Lerma Giron at the end of the team’s underwhelming UAAP Season 84 campaign.
With the departure of long-time ace Trisha Genesis, the Falcons unveiled new weapons in Trisha Tubu and Ayesha Juegos while also showing an improved version of Kate Santiago.
But the San Marcelino crew as unable to build on a torrid third-set showing to suffer its first loss in Pool B play. Adamson was supposed to play another game 12 hours later against Emilio Aguinaldo College, but it was postponed to a later date due to the impending arrival of supertyphoon Karding.
