NXLED continued to light up the Premier Volleyball League All Filipino Conference Siklab Series, sweeping Capital1, 25-12, 25-20, 25-18, to move on the cusp of securing the first semifinal berth at the Philsports Arena on Saturday.
The Chameleons lived up to the billing as one of the tournament’s most formidable contenders, overwhelming the Solar Spikers in virtually every department to stretch their unbeaten run to five matches and remain the only undefeated team in the nine-squad field.
“We just focused on our strengths and reminded each other not to be overconfident. Any team right now is really strong, so we always have to go all-out,” said setter Gel Cayuna, who tossed in 16 excellent set and scored three points. “That’s what we do in training, so it’s a good thing it translated onto the court.”
It was complete domination by Nxled, which outhit Capital1, 46-36, and erected a massive wall at the net with 10 blocks. The Chameleons also fired four service aces against the Solar Spikers’ one.
Brooke Van Sickle topscored for Nxled with 13 points, while MJ Phillips had nine points, including three blocks.
Jackie Acuña, who played in the first and third set, also had three blocks for a seven-point outing, while Jonah Sabete-Escamillan also scored seven points and collected eight digs and 10 receptions for the Chameleons. Rookie Irah Jaboneta had six receptions and five digs.
Nxled seeks to seal its passage to the Final Four against Akari on Thursday before plunging into a much-anticipated showdown with fellow title contender Creamline on Nov. 17.
“Our mindset is that we still shouldn’t be complacent. We’re still not perfect, we still have a lot of lapses, and those are what we need to polish so we can execute our game plan much better,” said Cayuna.
