LA SALLE gave its new coach Joyce Landangan a winning debut with a 1-0 squeaker over University of the Philippines in the UAAP women’s football tournament yesterday at the UP Football Stadium.
Lara Regarde scored the opening match’s lone goal, a 56th minute header after capitalizing on a deflection from Fighting Maroons goalkeeper Mariel Sancho that was enough for the Lady Booters to earn their first three points.
A former University of Santo Tomas standout, Landangan like what she saw as La Salle begin its bid to reclaim the championship ir last won in the 2018-19 season.
“I commend the girls because they worked and fought hard until the end. We have a lot of things to work on, but we’re here to learn along the way,” said Landangan.
The Nxled-backed Lady Booters hope for a better effort in the next match.
La Salle will go up against longtime rival Ateneo at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
“I think it’s going to be a good game. Rivals, of course, but we will prepare this week and see what will happen on the game, but definitely we will come to that game prepared,” Landangan said.
