Lady Falcons almost there

ADAMSON survived University of Santo Tomas, 22-25, 25-19, 16-25, 27-25, 15-12, to moved on the cusp of annexing a second straight V-League Collegiate Challenge crown Wednesday at the Playtime Filoil Centre.

Nigerian Frances Mordi, carrying the offensive load in the absence of ace Shai Nitura, produced MVP-like numbers of 24 points on 21 kills, two blocks and a service ace that went along with 11 receptions and seven digs.

The Lady Falcons go for the jugular in Game 2 set at 2 p.m. Friday at the San Juan arena.

Joy Aseo added 19 kills before being replaced by Lana Barrera in the fifth set while Third Tuddao chipped in 12 points and 11 digs for Adamson. Fhei Sagaysay tossed in 28 excellent sets and fired two service aces.

“We thank the Lord for this win, for the strength ng mga bata na binigay ni Lord. For me, I’m very happy on how they performed this game kasi kahapon medyo nag-aaway-away pa kami sa ensayo, eh,” said Lady Falcons coach JP Yude.

“Pero because of the—’yun nga, ’yung training namin—ni-ready kami ni Lord for that situation kahapon sa training kasi itong fifth set pala ’yung magiging game namin. So, very happy and very glad,” he added.

Reg Jurado took the scoring mantle for the Tigresses with 25 points, including three blocks and three service aces, and had 19 digs, while Angge Poyos contributed 17 points and 11 receptions.
