BOOSTED by the return of its ace Shai Nitura, Adamson repulsed University of the East, 25-23, 25-17, 25-17, to move within a win away from securing a Finals berth in the V-League Collegiate Challenge Wednesday at the Playtime Filoil Centre.
In her first appearance since returning from Alas duties, Nitura hammered five kills and collected two digs, all in the third set, as the Lady Falcons secured the 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.
Later, University of Santo Tomas also rolled to a Game 1 victory over Arellano University, 25-12, 25-18, 25-13, avenging its five-set loss in the preliminaries.
The league’s last two champions will try to close it out in Game 2s on Saturday at the San Juan arena.
“Siguro, number one thing is yung kumpiyansa na nanalo today. And then, how we worked on doon sa mga lapses at pag-adjust namin. Nag-adjust sila agad,” said Adamson coach JP Yude.
“But I’m not really satisfied kasi I know them, how they can play, so ‘yon, we’ll work on that,” he added.
Nigerian Frances Mordi continued to shine for the Lady Falcons, finishing with 22 points, including three blocks, and three service aces, while also recording 10 receptions and five digs.
Eloi Dote added seven points across the second and third sets, including five of Adamson’s 14 blocks. Third Tuddao and Lana Barrera each had six points.
