MONTALBAN – Lyann de Guzman shone in Nxled’s 25-18, 28-26, 25-18 win over Capital1, as the Chameleons gained a piece of the lead in the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference on Saturday night at Ynares Center here.
De Guzman started for the first time this conference and finished with 13 points. The former Ateneo standout entered the match in the third set of Nxled’s five-set victory over Farm Fresh, and was a major contributor with seven points.
De Guzman credited head coach Ettore Guidetti’s strict adherence to the team system for the Chameleons’ rise in the season-ending conference. Nxled joined Cignal on top of the standings.
“Coach always reminds us to stick to the system – hit hard and make sure we cover,” De Guzman said. “When rallies happen, everyone does their part, and it really worked for us.”
The No. 4 pick in last year’s PVL Rookie Draft also expressed gratitude to the team’s veterans, noting how their constant encouragement boosted her confidence.
“They’re very supportive. They always encourage me to attack, and they assure me they’ll take care of the coverage,” De Guzman said. “Everyone is working hard, so this win really belongs to the whole team.”
Brooke Van Sickle had 15 points, including two blocks, 12 digs and 12 receptions, while Myla Pablo also scored 15 points. MJ Phillips contributed 10 points, including four blocks.
The Chameleons bested the Solar Spikers in attacks, 47-41, and in blocks 9-7.
Nxled’s character will be tested again on Valentine’s Day. The Chameleons and the Super Spikers collide in a marquee matchup on Saturday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
