Adamson University made a winning return to the V-League Collegiate Challenge on Sunday, rallying from a set down to defeat the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD) Lady Altas, 22-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-22, at the Paco Arena.
The Lady Falcons looked rusty in the opening frame, giving up points off errors and struggling to find their rhythm. But once they settled in, Adamson’s steady execution on both offense and defense turned the match around.
In the second and third sets, the San Marcelino squad showcased better ball control and more fluid attacking, pulling away comfortably in both frames. Perpetual tried to mount a fightback in the fourth, but Eloi Dote came through in the clutch with back-to-back hits that put Adamson within striking distance of the win. Red Bascon then rose to the occasion, closing out the match with a decisive block that sealed the victory after one hour and 16 minutes of play.
Skipper and playmaker Fhei Sagaysay steered the Lady Falcons’ offense with composure, setting up her hitters for efficient looks at the net. Frances Mordi emerged as the main weapon, erupting for 22 points built on 17 kills, two blocks, and three service aces, while also contributing on defense with six digs and 11 excellent receptions.
Rookie Abegail Segui, a former Adamson high school standout, made an immediate impact with 17 points, while another newbie in MG Del Moral also made her presence felt in her collegiate debut, finishing with eight points to round out the scoring punch.
The result marks a strong start for Adamson in its V-League comeback campaign and offers a promising glimpse of what’s to come. With the UAAP season on the horizon, the Lady Falcons are using the tournament to sharpen their form, give valuable exposure to younger players, and build the chemistry needed for tougher games ahead.
