The Adamson University (AdU) Lady Falcons fell to the De La Salle University (DLSU) Lady Spikers in three grueling sets, 21-25, 24-26, 20-25, in the first round of the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan, Saturday.

Rookies Shaina Nitura and Frances Mordi once again led the scoring for the Lady Falcons with 16 and 12 points in Adamson’s first loss, respectively.

The Lady Falcons were on the verge of tying up the match, leading the Lady Spikers, 21-20, in the second set after Red Bascon’s hit off a combination play.

However, La Salle stayed composed even after Mordi took Adamson to match point. Angel Canino’s block on Bascon and Nitura’s error, then, allowed the former to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match on their way to a comfortable victory in the third frame.

AdU started the game on fire as it established a 4-0 lead in the opening set, but DLSU’s poise was evident throughout the match as the latter set the tone early.

Alleiah Malaluan regained her form as she topped La Salle’s scoring with 16 points composed of 13 attacks, two aces, and one block. Team captain Angel Canino had 16 points and six excellent digs, while Shevana Laput added 10 points.

The Lady Falcons will look to bounce back in their game against the University of the East Lady Warriors this Wednesday, February 26 at the Mall of Asia Arena at 1pm.
