To start the offseason, setter Angelica Alcantara was suddenly handed the chief playmaking position for the Lady Falcons.

Alcantara took on the challenge and one preseason tournament later, she orchestrated Adamson’s way through a silver medal and bagged the Best Setter plum in the Shakey’s Super League National Invitationals.

With all the recognition she received, the former Baby Falcon attributed her award to the whole team, mentioning that clinching the award wouldn’t be possible without her teammates and coaches.

“Sobrang thankful po ako kasi hindi ko naman po makukuha yung Best Setter [Award] kung hindi dahil sa mga teammates and coaches ko,” Alcantara said.

The 5’5 setter revealed that she was actually surprised when her name was called on stage as she was solely focused on playing her best night in and night out.

“Hindi ko po talaga inexpect, basta ginawa ko lang po yung best ko every game,” she added.

Alcantara stepped up to the plate as the main setter of a revamping Adamson side, while knowing about the pressure that surrounded the team throughout this offseason.

“Minomotivate ko lang po yung sarili ko everyday para mailabas ko po yung potential ko, yung skills ko, kasi laging sinasabi ni coach na nagte-training naman tayo so walang dapat ikatakot.”

Head Coach JP Yude praised Alcantara for always being open and obedient to her coaches.

Good thing naman kay Angge is lagi siyang nakikinig kung ano yung instructions na binibigay sa kanya,” Yude claimed.

The promising mentor believed that the award would surely boost the sophomore setter’s confidence when the team returns to practice and to a new Shakey’s conference slated next month.

“Thankfully, nakakuha siya ng Best Setter [Award] ngayon so magandang pang-boost ng confidence pagbalik sa preparation and sa Shakey’s sa September. It’s a great experience for her sa pagpasok sa Shakey’s and UAAP next year,” the Adamson head tactician said.

Alcantara subsequently thanked her head coach for the trust for keeping her in the game even in the nerve-wracking moments of the game.

“Sobrang laking pasasalamat ko po kasi sobrang laki ng tiwala niya sakin, like hindi niya po ako nilalabas kahit na nararattle na ako sa loob kaya thank you coach,” she turned and told Yude.
