ST. JOHN’S Instutute outlasted University of Santo Tomas, 19-25, 25-12, 25-20, 20-25, 15-10, to claim the bronze medal of the Rebisco Volleyball League on Friday at the Gameville Central Park in Mandaluyong City.
The Nxled-backed Falcons rebounded from a first set loss by dominating the second. The Bacolod-based squad took a 2-1 set lead before the Junior Tigresses stormed back in the fourth to force a decider.
SJI then showed tremendous composure to win the two-hour, 24-minute match and rebound from a tough 23-25, 25-22, 28-30, 25-16, 11-15 semifinal defeat to regional rival Bacolod Tay Tung on Thursday.
Caera Celis led the Falcons with 24 points, including four service aces, and 10 receptions, while Kristel Mae Mirasol had an impressive all-around game of 22 points, 15 digs and 13 receptions.
Eileen Yanson was the other SJI player in double digits with 15 points, including three aces, while Edz Escultura had a match-best four blocks. Libero Samantha Young collected 14 digs while setter Mishaella Geraldizo tossed in 13 excellent sets.
