FIFI Sharma was a force in the middle as Akari fashioned out a 25-23, 20-25, 11-25, 25-23, 15-12 victory over Cignal for its first winning streak of the Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference at the Playtime Filoil Centre Saturday.

Sharma finished with 16 points, highlighted by five emphatic blocks, but it was her quick attacks – and the swagger that followed each one – that electrified the Chargers and broke the Super Spikers’ resistance.

“I just missed playing my best and I’m just happy that I contributed for my team,” said Sharma.

Ivy Lacsina led Akari with 20 points and 11 receptions, Eli Soyud and Ced Domingo chipped in 14 each, and Grethcel Soltones added six points, none bigger than the clincher, which went along with 19 receptions.

The Chargers posted their second consecutive victory after a 0-3 start.

“It was a challenge for us as a team so we picked ourselves up after that Set 3 loss,” said Sharma. “Unti-unti nakukuha na namin. This was the game that proved we can bounce back even after a very bad set.

Erika Santos and Vanie Gandler both scored 23 points, but Cignal (4-2) could not hurdle its first five-set test of the conference.
