UNLIKE in its first two matches, where it rallied from behind in the third set to prevail, La Salle quickly got the job done by brushing off University of the Philippines, 25-12, 25-15, 25-19, to remain unbeaten in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament last night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Lady Spikers were able to carve out the victory without Shevana Laput, who was under the weather, as everyone was in the zone in the one-hour, 28-minute match.
La Salle, which has yet to drop a set this season, moved to a tie with defending two-time champion National University in first place at 3-0.
“Siguro natututo na doon sa first two games namin na palaging pagdating ng third set magre-relax. So ngayon, niremind ko lang sila na kailangan kung ano yung mindset doon sa first set hanggang third set dapat ganon din,” said coach Ramil De Jesus.
Angel Canino had 12 points on 11-of-23 kills and had six receptions and five digs to lead the Lady Spikers. Amie Provido and Shane Raterta each had 11 points while setter Eshana Nunag tossed in 15 excellent sets and collected four digs.
“Masaya po, lagi ko lang po iniisip pag naglalaro yung sinasabi po ng coaches namin na this is the time na ipakita po yung pinagtitrainingan namin and as a rookie gusto ko rin po makatulong sa seniors so it’s something na po na lagi kong iniisip during the game,” said rookie Mikee Santos, who started in place of Laput and contributed eight points, including two blocks.
La Salle will next face Ateneo on Sunday at the Big Dome.
