The Adamson University (AdU) Lady Falcons yielded to reigning champions, the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs, 21-25, 23-25, 18-25, in the first round of the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena last Wednesday.

Team captain Shaina Nitura only scored 13 points, her lowest output so far this season, built on nine attacks and four blocks. Still, the super rookie made up for it on the defensive end with eight excellent digs and 15 excellent receptions, while co-rookie Frances Mordi delivered her 13 points and six excellent digs in the losing effort.

Alyssa Solomon led the scoring for both teams with 22 points in 15 attacks, four blocks, and three aces. Vange Alinsug added 12 points, while Bella Belen contributed nine points and 12 excellent receptions.

Adamson kept up with the defending champs throughout the match, but NU’s experience took over as the latter stayed poised in the crucial moments of the sets.

The Lady Falcons slid down to a 2-4 record, will try to end snap their losing streak when they face the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons to close out the first round on Sunday, March 16 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum at 1 pm.
