New coaches, new faces make UAAP debut for Baby Falcons

A new era begins for the Adamson girls volleyball team.

With a new coaching staff and a horde of new faces, the Baby Falcons make their debut in the UAAP Season 81 girls volleyball tournament opposite FEU Saturday at the Blue Eagle Gym in Quezon City.

Now handled by multi-titled coach Onyok Getigan, Adamson has been very busy in the offseason preparing for their biggest campaign of the year.

Ckyle Tagsip, Lorene and Ella Toring, and Karen Verdeflor will be back to lead the Baby Falcons, who are also ably handled by assistants Lerma Giron and Marco Gojol.

But what would make the team more exciting this season is the arrival of player from all over the country recruited by Akari during the 2018 Akari Nationals and the 2018 Palarong Pambansa.

Those who made the final cut include Ayesha Juegos and Jen Villegas from Iligan City, Kyla Cordora from Davao City, Kate Santiago from Zamboanga, and Grace Borromeo and team captain Ishie Lalongisip from Southern Luzon.

“We’ve been waiting for this since summer and are excited to see what the kids will do on the court,” said Akari Sports director Russell Balbacal, who personally talked to the players and some of their parents to invite them to play for Adamson.

“This is a new chapter for the Baby Falcons and we are glad to be a part of it.”
