La Salle Zobel, Hope battle for Akari Metro Manila championship

De La Salle Zobel and Hope Christian High School arranged a title showdown in the 2018 Akari National High School Volleyball Championships Metro Manila finals Saturday at the Tivoli Royale Country Club in Quezon City.

The Junior Archers held off a feisty challenge by FEU Diliman to stretch their unbeaten streak behind rising star Angel Canino and veteran Vanessa Gandler.

While in control early in the first set, De La Salle Zobel banked on late errors by the Baby Tamaraws to draw first blood.

The Junior Archers then had to come back from up to four down in the second set before completing the 25-22, 25-23 triumph.

In the second game, Hope had an up-and-down performance, but the return of erstwhile injured players Ira Jaboneta and Ethan Arce proved to be the difference in their win over UST.

Mycah Go was a constant threat on offense while Arce’s blocking and Jaboneta’s additional offensive punch overcame the Junior Tigresses, 25-20, 18-25, 25-15, to book their championship ticket.

All four semifinalists will represent Metro Manila in next week’s National Finals at Adamson University.
