Cordillera rivals UC, Apayao lead North Luzon quarters

BAGUIO CITY — Rivals in the last CAR Regional Athletic Association meet, University of the Cordilleras and Pudtol Vocational High School led their respective groups to enter the quarterfinals of the 2018 Akari National High School Volleyball Championships Northern Luzon leg here. 

The Baby Jaguars swept Group A with a 4-0 record and will face Group B second-placer Hope International High School in the last eight while Pudtol, who won the right to represent the region in the 2018 Palarong Pambansa, were blemish-free in Group D and will battle Dagupan’s University of Luzon.

Meanwhile, Baguio City National High School will have its two entries, the Special Program in Sports team and the regular high school squad, facing off in the quarterfinals, even as Group C topnotcher University of Baguio takes on Benguet’s Sablan National High School.

It was an intense first day of competition, as teams from Baguio City, Benguet, La Trinidad, Apayao, La Union and Pangasinan battled for supremacy.

The quarterfinals begin Sunday at 7:30am, with the semifinals, classification and championship round following shortly.
