Try as they might, the Soaring Falcons couldn’t flip the switch against the FEU Tamaraws, giving up a 71 – 83 loss to close the first round.
Still reeling from a fire that gutted the community along Zobel Street a few days ago, the Soaring Falcons had a hard time defending an FEU team known for their sheer athletic ability. Tamaraws Pat Tchuente and Xyrus Torres had career games, scoring 21 points each coming from different parts of the court.
Adamson’s Lenda Douanga struggled to contain Tchuente in the paint after constantly getting called for fouls underneath. Tchuente took 12 trips to the freethrow line while pulling down 19 rebounds in the game. On the backcourt, the Falcons guards had difficulty implementing their full court press allowing LJ Gonzales to find Torres on multiple occasions for open triples. Torres made five triples in the game, two of which came off bad defensive sequences by the Falcons to close out the third quarter just when it looked like Adamson was going to keep the game close.
Valandre Chauca and Jerom Lastimosa had a tough time containing their defensive assignments after getting saddled with two fouls each in the first quarter. To make matters worse, the Falcons were struggling heavily on the offensive end.
Big men Lenda and Simon Camacho were constantly hounded in the paint. It didn’t help their cause that their guards were firing blanks from the outside. Chauca couldn’t hit any of his 7 three point attempts while Jerrick Ahanmisi could only manage to make two out of his 7 tries from range.
The Soaring Falcons tried to get back into the game early in the 4th quarter, staying in front of FEU’s initial ball handler and forcing him to turn the ball over. But FEU’s ability to drive down the lane continued to give the Falcons problems, managing to fish for Lenda’s 5th and final foul with 3:12 left in the game.
At the end of the game, FEU attempted 37 free throws to the 19 of Adamson, giving them an edge despite attempting 20 field goals less than the Falcons. This marks the 4th straight game Adamson has lost to FEU since the second round of Season 80.
As a result of the loss, the Adamson Soaring Falcons drop to a 3 – 4 record tied at 4th place with FEU and DLSU.
