Match point, UP was on a 3-0 run slowly inching closer to force the deuce.
UP served, as the ball flew in the air Lady Falcons veteran Joy Dacoron called out for the ball. She went up for her signature running spike, but it deflected off the blocker’s hands. She quickly blocked an attack which rattled the UP offense into sending over a light attack that was handily received. Dacoron called for the ball again. The set went up, Joy went up.
A running spike went straight into the UP defender’s forearm. The ball bounced wildly out of reach from everyone. Game!
The Adamson Lady Falcons ended their season with an emphatic win over UP, unleashing a performance that made them look like a totally different team from the start of the season. Gunners Bern Flora and Chiara Permentilla waxed hot scoring 10 and 16 points for the Lady Falcons respectively. Chiara had a game to remember, rifling the ball through the hands of blockers and occasionally finding the line.
But they were not alone as the veterans Joy Dacoron and Eli Soyud did their share of putting pressure on UP. Joy and her signature running spike gave the Maroons problems, but it was her blocking that ultimately frustrated them.
Meanwhile Eli took control of the team whenever UP started going on runs, stabilizing the Lady Falcons’ attack, preventing UP from getting close.
The Lady Falcons were playing so in sync that even libero Thang Ponce got in on the scoring when an easy-over return caught UP napping and fell to their side of the floor.
Coach Onyok was over the moon with delight, not only for the dominant win, but more so because of the progress his players have made.
“Kumakagat na yung system,” he gleefully announced, finally getting to see signs that their hard work is paying off.
“The way na naglaro ang mga players kitang kita na gusto nilang manalo. Halos lahat ng pinractice namin nasunod.”
The coaching staff did not hold back on heaping praise over gunners Permentilla and Flora who not only exhibited much improved skills but also relentless determination.
“Si Chiara at si Flora sobrang laki ng pinagbago nila once na nakuha nila yung sistema.”
There was extra motivation for the graduating Dacoron and Soyud who both wanted to end their college playing careers with a win.
“Hinihingi ko nga yun galing sa setter namin,” Dacoron said referring to her game winning spike. “Motivated ako sa laro ngayon kasi take it or leave it. No regrets kasi last na eh.”
Following the thunderous finale to the season, the Lady Falcons are gearing up for the next phase for the team where new faces will be battling it out for Adamson. This dominant performance is just a taste of things to come.
